Witness Asia's  74-acre largest tulip garden in Srinagar.

Tulip Garden is situated in the foothills of the Zabarwan Range. There are 15 lakh tulips there, in 68 different varieties as well as other kinds of flowers including daffodils, hyacinths, ranunculus, etc. The Tulip Garden is a must-see tourist destination in Kashmir Valley if you are considering visiting. OVERVIEW OF TULIP GARDEN, SRINAGAR KASHMIR

In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India, there is a tulip garden called the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, formerly known as the Model Floriculture Centre. The garden was introduced by the former Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad in 2007. It is surrounded on three sides by the Chashma Shahi Garden, Nishat Bagh, and Dal Lake. In Asia, it is the largest tulip garden, covering around 30 ha (74 acres). It is located at the foot of the Zabarwan mountain range and was constructed on a slope in a terraced style with seven terraces and views of the Dal Lake. The garden is only 9 km from Srinagar, and you can get there from the airport by using public transportation or a private vehicle. The garden is adorned with endless rows of magnificent tulip flowers. In addition to the typical yellow, red, and orange tulips, you can see some unusual hybrid flowers.

This garden, which is home to several flower species besides tulips, is located at an elevation of 5600 feet, overlooking the magnificent Dal Lake in Siraj Bagh. These species include daffodils, hyacinths, roses, ranunculi, muscaria, iris, etc.


 The garden was established in 2007 with the intention of enhancing Kashmir Valley tourism and floriculture. Previously, it was known as Siraj Bagh. The Keukenhof tulip gardens in Amsterdam were the source of 1.5 million multi-coloured tulip bulbs that were brought to this garden. There are 48 different types of flowers in addition to tulips, including hyacinths, daffodils, and ranunculus that were also imported from Holland.  There are about 68 different kinds of tulips in the seven-terraced garden that attract not only the   adults, but also the children. The water channel that runs through the terraces gives the area more charm and makes it the ideal location for  couples to capture the romantic photos.


After the Mughals constructed recreation areas in Kashmir in the sixteenth century, this flower field was the first and largest landscaping project undertaken by the government.
The project was a great success, and in 2017 this lovely garden was listed as one of the top 5 tulip gardens in the world. Each of the seven terraces features a unique assortment of flowers, particularly tulips. Each year, fresh blooms are introduced, totalling 15 lakh tulips . The climate of Kashmir is ideal for  tulips.
The "Queen of the Night" and other extremely rare tulip varieties can be found in this garden, which is a blessing.

 


TULIP FESTIVAL

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir hosts the Tulip Festival every Spring to promote tourism. A variety of flowers are displayed at the festival. It is held in Kashmir Valley during the start of the spring season. This event is open to the public and is a must-see for tourists in Kashmir as it tries to highlight the natural beauty of the garden, the vibrant Kashmiri culture, and it's crafts and cuisine. 2.PARI MAHAL:

Pari Mahal, located on the Zabarwan Mountain, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Srinagar. Dara Shikoh, the Mughal Prince in the 1600s is believed to have lived here. The Pari Mahal, or the Abode of Fairies, is ornamented with a seven-terraced garden where visitors can witness a variety of floral plants, trees, and shrubs. This garden, which covers 31 acres, was once a favourite summer destination for Emperor Jahangir and his court. This lovely masterpiece or 'home of love,' as it is now known, was initially called 'Farah Baksh,' which translates to 'delightful.'The Shalimar Bagh is a tranquil location surrounded by tall Chinar trees and many colourful flowers. It also has a wonderfully built canal that flows through the centre of the garden, adding to its allure.


The 'Chini Khanas' are the Shalimar Bagh's primary attractions. At night, oil lights were lit in these 'Chini Khanas,' creating a magnificent spectacle. However, in modern times, these 'khanas' are embellished with flower pots, which are  artistically appealing.

The garden's design is inspired by the Persian 'Char Bagh.' The Shalimar is divided into three terraces, each serving a specific purpose.in the past the  outer half of the garden, known as the 'Diwan-i-Aam,' was open to the public, while the inner portion, known as the 'Diwan-i-Khas,' was solely reserved for the king and his court.

4.CHASHMA SHAHI:

Chashme Shahi was built in 1632 for Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan's eldest son, Dara Shikoh, by his administrator Ali Mardan.

Chashme Shahi is a three-tiered garden through which the water of a natural spring flows. On the highest terrace a double-story cabin is built in the garden, which is thought to be the source of the water. The gardens have a Persian/Iranian flavour in their construction and are well-manicured, providing visitors with a visual delight.

Chashme Shahi Garden, part of the Mughal Gardens and a must-see in Srinagar, is best known for its natural spring. The spring is said to have been discovered by Rupa Bhawani, a prominent female saint of Kashmir, and was formerly known as 'Chashme Sahibi'.Tourists come to this Srinagar attraction to drink the water from the spring, which is said to have medicinal properties. It should be emphasised that even in the height of summer, the water from the spring is always chilly.

7.Dachigam National Park
Dachigam National Park, located slightly more than 22 kilometres from the capital city of Srinagar, is home to the endangered Hangul of Kashmir Stag and a variety of other Himalayan wildlife species. Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary, with its diverse flora and fauna, is one of the best places to visit in Jammu and Kashmir for wildlife enthusiasts. The park is adorned by the Dagwan River that runs through it and the Sangargulu Valley, which makes it unique. The Sangargulu Valley, also known as the Valley of Flowers, is an excellent trekking site in Dachigam National Park for spotting leopards and koklass pheasants.

 Dachigam, which covers an area of 500 square kilometres, provides a wonderful experience of peering within the rich Himalayan biodiversity and spotting animals such as musk deer, leopard, Himalayan black bear, and Himalayan brown bear, among many other species. Dachigam National Park is also a dream come true for every birder, with avifauna like the Cinnamon sparrow, Black bulbul, Himalayan monal, Golden oriole, and many others.

8. Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar, Kashmir
Hazratbal, Kashmir's holiest shrine, is where a strand of Prophet Mohammed's hair is kept. The hair is also known as "the relic" or "Moi-e-Muqaddas." Tourists in general consider Hazratbal Shrine to be an important sight to see in Srinagar, while Muslim devotees from all over the country make it a point to visit this precious shrine at least once in their lives.
On special occasions, such as the birthdays of Prophet Muhammad and his four main companions, viz.

Hazrat Abu Bakr Siddique, Hazrat Umar ibn Khattab, Hazrat Usman ibn Affan, and Hazrat Ali, the sacred hair of the Prophet is displayed to the public. Many devotees and tourists from all around the country attend such events. Syed Abdullah, is believed to have brought the relic to India.

His son Syed Hamid acquired the relic after his father died, but he was unable to care for it and sold it to a wealthy Kashmiri trader, Khwaja Nur-ud-din Eshai, during the reign of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.When Aurangzeb learned about the relic, he not only ordered its confiscation, but also the imprisonment of Khwaja Nur-ud-din Eshai. The relic was returned to Kashmir in 1700, together with the body of Khwaja Nur-ud-din Eshai, who died in captivity. His daughter, Inayat Begum, became the official custodian of the relic and established the shrine. The dome and minaret are influenced by Mughal design, while the shrine is influenced by Kashmiri architecture.

Some guidelines:

The mosque is packed on Fridays for Jumma Namaz (Friday prayers), thus tourists should avoid attending on this day of the week. Women are only permitted in the first section of the mosque.

9. Jama Masjid:
Jama Masjid, located in Nowhatta, commonly known as Downtown, is the largest mosque in Kashmir Valley and one of the main tourist attractions in Srinagar. The mosque's great location, stunning architecture, enormous size, and historical and religious significance make it a popular tourist attraction in Srinagar. Every Friday, thousands of devotees flock to the sacred Jama Masjid to offer prayers.

Sultan Sikandar constructed Jamia Masjid in 1402. The existing structure was renovated by Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb Alamgir in 1672 The mosque has suffered extensive fire damage. The fire broke out three times in Jama Masjid, the last time during the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb. The Indo-Saracenic style has influenced the architecture of Jama Masjid. A stunning courtyard with 370 wooden pillars adds to Jama Masjid's allure. The Jama Masjid has three entrance gates on the north, south, and eastern sides, each with three turrets standing on tall deodar wood columns.

The mosque is large and can hold 33333 people at a time. The mosque is overcrowded on Fridays so the day should be avoided if you are a tourist. The finest time to visit Jama Masjid is during the first prayer of the day. The air appears to be filled with calm and sanctity.

10.Shankaracharya Temple
Shankaracharya Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is one of the most important religious sites in Srinagar. It is named for the famous philosopher Shankarcharya, who visited Kashmir at one point. The Hindu temple is strategically located to provide devotees and tourists with a panoramic view of Srinagar City. The temple, also known as Jyeshteshwara Temple, is accessible via a 243-step staircase and is visited by a large number of Hindu devotees during the Amarnath Yatra.

The square Shankaracharya Temple is supported by a 20-foot-tall octagonal base. A small, gloomy, round chamber exists within the temple. The ceiling is supported by four octagonal pillars that surround a basin containing a Shivalinga ringed by a snake.

The months of May through September are ideal for visiting Shankaracharya.

Inside the temple, cameras and phones are not permitted. As a result, leave them in your car/cab or at your hotel before visiting. The temple remains open until 8:00 p.m. However, cars are only permitted to enter the parking area until 5:00 p.m. Because there are 243 steps to climb to reach Shankaracharya Temple, it is best to wear comfortable shoes and bring water with you.


11. Kashmir Golf Course
Kashmir Golf Course is considered to be India's most beautiful golf course, spanning 52 acres. This popular Srinagar golf course is also the oldest in the Kashmir Valley. A well-kept golf course with a luxury hotel nearby, it promises a high-end golfing experience to visitors from all over the world. It is a full-fledged 18-hole golf course with a stunning backdrop. It is one of the best summer golf courses. As it is designed attractively, this place in Kashmir also provides a great experience to nature enthusiasts. The British established the Kashmir Golf Course in 1887. 12.Nishat Garden

The Nishat Garden, also known as the 'Garden of Bliss,' is the second-largest Mughal Garden Of Kashmir. It is the second most popular tourist destination in Srinagar, after Shalimar Bagh.
The lovely garden is located on the eastern side of the scenic Dal Lake, against the spectacular Zabarwan Mountains. This dreamlike garden is a haven for nature enthusiasts, family vacationers, and romantic couples, offering stunning vistas and an unforgettable experience.Asaf Khan, Nur Jahan's elder brother, constructed Nishat Bagh in 1633 AD. It is said that when Emperor Shah Jahan saw the grandeur and splendour of the Nishat Bagh, he was so astonished and awestruck that he thanked Asaf Khan three times. The style and arrangement of the Nishant Bagh, like all Mughal Gardens, is hugely influenced by Persian architecture. It features a lovely water channel running through the centre, which adds to the romantic attractiveness of the garden. Nishat Bagh is well-known for its 12 terraces, each of which is decked with exquisite flowers such as roses and lilies and represents a different zodiac sign.

13.Badamwari
The early bloom of Almond trees in Shahr-e-Khaas' expansive medieval Badamwari garden has been a draw for nature enthusiasts and tourists alike. The 300-kanal garden, located on the foothills of Koh-e-Maran, dotted with trees, flowers, and cascades, gives  visitors a relaxing experience. Historians believe there is no record of the person who built the garden, however it is estimated that it existed before the 14th century reign of Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin. The garden's well-covered dome is named for an Afghan monarch, Warris Shah. The bloom on the Almond trees signal the arrival of spring. In 2008, the garden was resurrected and opened to the public.


14.HARI PARBAT:
Hari Parbat, commonly known as Kooh-e-Maran, is located on the west of Dal Lake in Srinagar.This Mughal edifice was built in the 18th century by Afghan Governor Atta Mohammed Khan. Later, in 1590, Emperor Akbar built a lengthy wall. This fort sits at the summit of Dal Lake and is surrounded by beautiful architecture from all religions.

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) maintains this fort, which still stands impressively with historic rooms and huge pillars. Hari Parbat offers a panoramic view of the Makhdoom Sahib shrine. This hilly spot, one of the top religious places to visit in Srinagar, is home to a plethora of gorgeous temples devoted to various deities.  

Hari Parbat is home to the Sharika Devi Temple, which is dedicated to Goddess Jagdamba. In addition to this Hindu temple, the mountain also houses a gurdwara and a mosque, demonstrating the region's secularism. The majestic Hari Parbat fort, built during the Durrani Empire in the nineteenth century, is one of Hari Parbat's main attractions. 15.Harwan Park
Harwan Garden, located in Harwan Village (19 kilometres from Srinagar), is a large and popular tourist attraction. A canal begins from a lake behind and is beautifully bordered by Chinar trees and blossoming flower beds.

The natural beauty and charm of the Harwan garden are its main draws. With vegetation in the backdrop of a winter climate, this garden boasts large green grass lawns that draw tourists in.The garden,  accessible by taxi within half an hour, and serves as the entrance of the DachiGam Wildlife Sanctuary.

16. MOSQUE OF SHAH-I-HAMADAN
This is one of the city's oldest mosques, located on the banks of the Jhelum River in the city center. Sultan Sikander constructed it  without the use of nails ,with wood around 1400. Painted papier-mâché reliefs decorate the frontage and interiors. The structure is on the site of one of Kashmir's first mosques, found by the Persian saint Mir Sayed Ali Hamadani, whose retinue is thought to have introduced Kashmiris to the Persian technique of superb carpet-making.

17.Char Chinari:
Char Chinar, a small island on Dal Lake, is another popular tourist site in Srinagar. The island is named from the old Chinar trees that grow on it. Furthermore, it can only be reached by taking a Shikara boat ride on Dal Lake. It is surrounded by stunning snow-covered peaks.

18.Pather Mosque
Noor Jahan found Pathar Mosque on the banks of the Jhelum River in 1623. According to history, Malik Hyder Chaudhary, a notable Mughal architect and historian, designed and oversaw the construction of this mosque.
The name of the mosque comes from its structure, which is largely comprised of stones. This location is filled with captivating compositions, horizontal arches, and structural designs that portray beautiful Mughal architecture. The shrine is still in ruins, and the only visitors are historians and history buffs.

19.Srinagar's Dastgeer Sahib Shrine:
Dastgeer Sahib Shrine is a 200-year-old Sufi shrine and one of the oldest spiritual sites Kashmir that you should visit. According to popular belief, the shrine was found in 1845 by the philanthropist Mir Husain Qadri. And it has always been a popular tourist destination.

The  features of this Mughal-style shrine bore little resemblance, as it was covered with a traditional Khatamband ceiling with numerous motifs. Crystal chandeliers and papier mache-finished inner walls frame the space. Dastgeer Sahib, on the other hand, was  burnt in a fire in 2012. The shrine has been restored to its former glory, and it currently holds beautiful relics of Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jelani.

Makhdoom Sahib Shrine , Srinagar - Makhdoom Sahib, a magnificent Islamic shrine attributed to the Sufi saint Makhdoom Sahib aka Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom, is located in the southern section of the gorgeous Hari Parbat. The two-story shrine appears to be quite attractive and impressive, created in the characteristic Mughal architectural style.

The mosque's foundation is supported many pillars that contribute to the architectural splendour of the building. Makhdoom Sahib is completely encircled by magnificent panoramic vistas, attracting spiritual searchers and peace lovers seeking the blessings of Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom and feeling close to the almighty in the quiet and serene atmosphere.

In Srinagar Kashmir, there is a tulip garden called the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, formerly known as the Model Floriculture Center. A little over 30 ha (74 acres) in size, it is the largest tulip garden in Asia. The garden houses 1.5 million plants with 48 different species of flowers and 68 types of tulip.
