JAMMU KASHMIR POPULATION
Jammu Kashmir is the 19th populated state of India. The latest population of Jammu Kashmir stands at around 12 million. The population is increasing at a constant rate. The Indian government conducts a survey after every 10 years throughout the country and in parts of Jammu Kashmir under its control. The latest survey was held in 2011. According to this survey the total population of the Jammu and Kashmir is 12,548,926, which forms 1.04% of the total population of India. Of this 6,665,561 are males and 5,883,365 are females. The density of the population is about 56 per sq. km. 3,414,106 people reside in the urban areas, amounting to 27.21% of the total population. 9,134,820 people live in rural areas, amounting to 72.79% of the total population. The population in 2001 was 10,143,700, with 5,360,926 males and 4,782,774 females. The state recorded a growth of 23.71 % in the decade.
