Kashmir Sonamarg Naranag Trek
“Kashmir, the rest was worthless”- aptly quoted by emperor Jehangir. Kashmir has it all for one and all. The scenic beauty in this land is worth more dimes than one can spend on. The land is a beautiful culmination of natural beauty and the historic incidents that have left marks on this precious land. It has grandeur, charisma and the attraction that sets the travellers in motion for this paradise. It’s a place for lovers, for mountaineers, for families, for individuals who want to be lost in the white and pristine serenity this place offers.
This trek is one of the most magnificent treks and is well known as the “Great lakes”. This entire expedition consists of visit to five major lakes of Kashmir along with visits to three mountain passes of an average height of 4000 meters.
On arrival at Srinagar our representative shall be available to meet you and will ensure the best of your comforts while taking you on a city tour. Srinagar offers a variety of places to be visited from gardens to monuments of historical importance. The stay will be at the houseboat of the most well-known Dal Lake. While cruising across the lake in Shikaras the scenic gardens of Mughal Era can be seen. An overnight stay in the houseboat at this lake is a wonderful experience.
The next day the expedition begins with the entourage moving on to Sonmarg through the picturesque environment of the Sind River. Sonmarg the ‘meadow of Gold’ has been the favourite site of Indian Cinema and is recently the famous tourist spot for river rafting. The trek to Shitkari which is a 2 km trek just before Sonmarg is the starting point of the expedition and trekking through Shokadari one will be at Nichnai the base camp for the night.
On the third day on an early start the entourage shall descend to the Nichnai Pass- located at 4000 meters above the sea. Further descend towards Vishansar and Krishansar Lake. The trek is a meadow trek with magnificent flowers in the backdrop and crossing of streams to reach the destination. It is a 5-6 hour trek expedition. Once at the Lake enjoy the scenic beauty and spend the night camping in tents on the banks of Krishansar Lake.
The next day proceed from Krishansar towards Gadsar Lake. The Lake is well known as the lake of Flowers and enrooted pass the Gadsar Pass by descending towards the Yamsar Lake. It is a 4-5 hour trek and encompasses the beauty of snow and white pristinely. Once again spend the night out in the tents by the campfire.
On the fifth day make an easy trek down from Gadsar towards Poshpatri, from there on take a leisurely walk towards Megandub, where you can visit the historical and natural scenery of Dupta Pani- the place where a stream disappears, then once again back track and move on towards Satsar- seven lakes arranged in a beautiful combination and interlined to each other making the most precious scene of natural beauty and the a portrayal of paradise. Further move on towards the Zagibal Mountain, camp out there for the night. One can enjoy skiing and fishing in this area.
The next day begin early and move towards the Gangabal Lake by crossing the Zagibal pass and passing a glacier from the close sight. Zagibal at the height of 4180 is the highest pass of our expedition. One feels peace and calm and all the days passed feel like a memory on viewing the magnificent Harmukh mountains right in front of the eyes. The scene needs to be captured in our mental cameras and required to be framed as you further on view the beauty of the twin lakes at the base of Mount Harmukh- Gangabal and Nandukol. Descend towards Gangabal Lake at your own pace and time and enjoy the valley scene. Camping at the lake side for the last time is more fun and enjoyable. Fishing is once again an available option here.
The last day of the trek move on from Gangabal to Trunkol through the flower filled valley of bodhpatri. From Trunkol further descend towards Narang through the pine forest and reach Narang from there a vehicle shall transfer you to Srinagar which is a short two hour drive. This drive is through the valley of Sind and the village life of Kashmir can be experienced on this route. By evening reach Srinagar once again camp the night in a houseboat.
On the day of departure as per the schedule of means of departure the representative will ensure to drop you. If time permits, the ends of Srinagar can be visited for shopping.
